“…barbarians are not usually dissuaded with noble words”
-Eric Metaxas
From Amazing Grace, P 126. In context, he is referring to the abolitionists presenting the horrendous conditions of slaves on boats, as well as the incredibly high death rates to parliament and then receiving opposition from those in favor of the slave trade, despite knowing the cruelty towards other human life.
There are endless situations to which this truth applies. This is another form of the timeless truths found in Proverbs that talk about answering not a fool according to his folly.
If not noble words, then what does dissuade the barbarians?
Let me know your thoughts.
